Ransomware - how much is your data worth?
Venue: Institut Ruđer Bošković, dvorana 3. krila | Grad: Zagreb, Croatia
Ransomware is a type of malicious software from cryptovirology that threatens to publish the victim's data or perpetually block access to it unless a ransom is paid. Since anonymous payments through crypto coins (Bitcoin) are possible, ransomware attacks are getting very frequent lately.
This presentation will provide an overview of ransomware mode of operation, usual attack vectors and real-world examples from recent history. Then we'll
suggest and discuss best practices to prevent data loss due to ransomware attacks.

Nikola Pavković received a master's degree after studying at Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences (University of Zagreb) in 2006. He
works at Information Systems dept @Rudjer Boskovic Institute since 2006 and has published a number of technical papers covering various topics related to information security. As a teaching assistant at FER, in scope of the "Advanced algorithms and data structures" subject, he held several classes about basic cryptography algorithms. In 2014, after defending his thesis "Penetration testing through social engineering" he got a specialist degree in Information
Security.
specijalistički rad iz područja penetracijskog ispitivanja i društvenog inženjeringa.
