At the end of its first year, PATTERN marked the occasion with a detailed report on its achievements so far. The report presents the results of activities such as mapping available trainings, identifying gaps and opportunities, and discovering potential trends and key insights. Over 500 educational resources were mapped, covering various types and formats of activities and static resources. Recognized trends include a learner-centered approach, integration of disciplines, repurposing existing educational materials to meet needs, learning by doing and problem-based learning, integration of theory into practice, and “Train-the-Trainer” courses with a focus on pedagogy. Existing policies, frameworks, initiatives, and guidelines at the European, national, and institutional levels were also mapped. Finally, approximately 250 digital and freely available resources underwent a quality assessment based on relevance, accessibility, ease of use, structure, and clarity of language. The analysis provides a thorough critical evaluation of these resources, identifying their strengths and weaknesses as well as gaps in education.
Additionally, in its first year, PATTERN published the first in a series of brochures resulting from mapping activities, which identified more than 60 available trainings in the field of citizen science. The brochure on citizen science features five highlighted trainings and six additional resources, and can be found at the provided link. More information on the research and mapping of trainings and resources can be found in the report stored in the Zenodo repository.
In its second year, the PATTERN project will continue to develop the remaining seven brochures, each focused on one of the transferable skills. Through this initiative, the project aims to provide relevant training and resources to researchers to promote open and responsible research and innovation practices. Detailed information about the project and upcoming activities can be found on the official PATTERN website, or you can follow our blog for further updates.
